Shinoh Nam
Biography
Shinoh Nam (Seoul, 1993) is a South Korean artist, living and working in Düsseldorf and Berlin. Through his work, he creates concepts that seek to challenge boundaries and to broaden the thinking of the beholder. Drawing on the thesis that human minds are influenced and changed when exposed to new experiences and situations. Nam uses installation and sculpture to introduce the observer to new surroundings. The installations combine the new with the familiar, integrating recognizable elements: Artificial space object, Laboratory and everyday life, and shift our current reality into novel concepts. Despite the use of brutalistic raw materials, Shinoh Nam’s largescale installations strike through a sense of finesse which is only achieved as a result of his precise execution. His combine of
philosophical moments such as ‘Encounter’, ‘Repetition’, ‘Interval’ and consecutive lines are taken from the inspiration which he finds in architecture , starting from ‘EYE’ and ‘GAZE’. The omitting of color supports the focus on the psychological content of his works, minimizing the potential distraction color may bring to the beholder.
Nam has enrolled as a Fine Art student with Monica Bonvicini at the Universit.t der Künste in Berlin and Architecture with Donatella Fioretti at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. He has previously worked in Photography and Visual Media in Seoul, where he also obtained a qualification in psychology counseling. Currently Nam is complementing his Fine Art studies with a study in Architecture.
His works has been exhibited internationally, amongst others at Sejong Center in Seoul (2015),Gallery Einstosz in Düsseldorf (2016), Arts Centre Dresden-Schimmel project(2017), Gallery 062 in Chicago (2018), Open White Gallery in Berlin(2019), Gallery OFFRAUM8 in Düsseldorf(2019) , Gallery Reinraum e.V in Düsseldorf(2020), Art space SOMA in Berlin(2021), and at the KARMA International in Zürich (2021).
