- Matilde Sambo
Presentimento
Renata Fabbri is pleased to announce Presentimento, the first solo show by Matilde Sambo at the gallery. The exhibition includes bronze sculptures, textile works, drawings and engravings, and focuses on key themes from the artist’s research, such as human evolution, the relationship with nature and the coexistence with other forms of life.
Matilde Sambo’s practice spans multiple languages, from sculpture to video, from sound to performance, investigating the body as a site of convergence between memory, evolution and consciousness. Her works weave together mythological elements, rituals and oneiric visions, creating suspended worlds in which the unresolved and the fragmented become objects of celebration. Through an archaeological approach, the artist delves into collective memory to reveal universal stories and intimate transformations. Her sculptures, guardians of a buried yet accessible memory, hint at evolving identities, inviting reflection on human fragility and the invisible network that binds us to other lifeforms.
Presentimento marks the conclusion of the Dormiveglia trilogy, which began with Assopimento (2022) and continued with Fulgur (2023). In this cycle of works, Sambo investigates the delicate boundary between reality and imagination, exploring an intermediate temporal space in which the body surrenders to relaxation. The senses gradually fade, so that stimuli continue to be processed in a limbo of activity between perception and consciousness. Presentiment, viewed as a sense of foreboding emerging from the unconscious, defines the third chapter in which Sambo engages with the dream in its various forms. From an initially undefined perception, presentiment becomes tangible, taking the form of concrete impulses that awaken consciousness and guide the mind and body beyond the limits of the visible and the familiar.
