Anna-Bella Papp / Alina Vergnano
Stoicism states that reality results from the sum of two components: surface and depth. Surface was associated to “incorporeal reality, the one defining events, expressions and the possible becoming”, the revelation of something tangible. Depths, instead, contain the states of being, “of union between bodies, bound by a great fire, standing in the same present”. In the relation between these two entities and in the groundless prejudice, which prioritizes depth over other dimensions – as shown by the philosopher Gilles Deleuze – emerge the theoretical and poetic elements connecting Anna-Bella Papp and Alina Vergnano’s work; a duality through which, in a different but complementary way, they mark the matter, giving life to a dialogue between surfaces and signs.
